Learning analytics and progress tracking in educational games

The use and need for technology in education have surged during the pandemic years. Many schools and other educational institutions started looking for remote learning tools. Even though a lot of different educational apps emerged during that time and after, one problem persisted: How to successfully monitor the progress of students using these apps in an easy and efficient manner? The answer is learning analytics and progress tracking.

What is learning analytics?

Learning analytics is the collection, measurement, and analysis of the data of each student user. When a student uses a technological tool for education purposes, there is a lot of information and data about their progress that is stored inside the programme. Without an easy way for the teacher to access this data and organise it, it is almost impossible to make use of it for hundreds of students at once.

How can it be used in educational technology?

Developers can use learning analytics to provide teachers with an easily accessible dashboard. This dashboard contains the data of each student user in a time-efficient and organised manner. It can also be used to track the progress of each student and pinpoint the areas where they might need extra support.

This dashboard can help with:

  • Providing the teacher with a clear vision of the progress of each student.
  • Helping the teacher identify specific strong and weak points for each student.
  • Presenting a regular progress report to the student’s parent/guardian.
  • Supplying the school with reports for each class to keep up with the progress.

Autsera and progress tracking dashboards

All of Autsera‘s game apps, EmoGami, QuadEmo, and our upcoming speech recognition app, include an in-game dashboard that is accessible to the teacher and the parent of the user. The dashboard has detailed information about each student and is updated every time they use the app.

Teachers can access the data through the dashboard, export it as a PDF file and share it with parents, therapists or anyone who needs it.
